Our aid projects in summary

Sewing machine project

Women rejected by their men live alone with 4 to 6 children and have no financial support. To offer a perspective to these women,
we have opened a sewing school in March 2005, continously financed by our moneys and donations. The school offershope for the women, to become financially
independent, by educating them as seamstress. With their gains, they can guarantee their survival, as well as of their children's.
The education of women (partially from the slums) to become a seamstress takes about 3 years. After the 1st year, a certificate will be granted (Level 1).
Besides the 10 sewing machines (cost per machine of about 250.00 €), it was possible to recently buy 2 industrail sewing machines. The classes are given daily,
for 2 groups (morning and afternoon). During this time, the women who are already graduated can make orders in the industrial machines and make their own living.
Incidental costs per month:
- 90 - Euros for the teacher, in a work day of 8 hours shift
- 20 - Euros for cloth, threads, buttons, etc. (normal education)
- 100 - Euros for general expenses (water, electrical power, repairs on the sewing machines).
So far, 40 women have successfully participated and finished the course with the certificate. Women from slums do not need to pay for education and are
assisted by us while our money lasts.
At first, the sewing school was located in a simple wood shelter, with no safety. After the classes it was necessary to take the machines into the church,
to protect them against robbery. By the end of 2007, the works to build a brick building was completed, and the sewing school was able to move to this
building.

Assistance to women living on the streets with small children

There are many young women living on the streets. They have no relatives (many of them died on Aids), nor home, and so, they are out there left to their
own fate. Some were victims of street men who assaulted them and they got pregnant.
Once a week there is a hot meal for the community, drinks as fresh and clean water or tea for mothers and their babies. Lucy, the wife of Minister Patrick,
tries to offer a little bit of consolation and hope.
The monthly costs for food, drinks and drugs are of 150 €. This project can only be performed if the costs are ensured by cash donations or income from
our events (e.g. participation in the International Festival of Women Meeting).

Mobile clinic / First-aid-centre

Through prevention, illness could be discovered and treated earlier. Because of this long and expensive treatments could be reduced. There is in Nakuru only
one public hospital for thousands of people. Medical treatment and medicins are very expensive.
In the years 2006 and 2007, about 300 poor people, could get at a mobile clinic a first aid care through medicine and vaccines, for an amount of 1000 €.
Kenya doctors come with a small bus and treat people in change of very little funds.
The objective is to build on the piece of land of the community a first-aid-centre. The was is the objective - help us with your donations for us
to follow this way and reach our objective.
